Hum...this appears to have been written way earlier in the month, and things may have escalated a bit since then. Or perhaps we are just now becoming fully aware of our neighbors suffering. Either way, there has certainly been a lot of talk on the issue. This kind of goes hand in hand with the article about economics and violence. When you get to the point where the drug cartels essentially become the government in certain areas, then they will absolutely hold some weight in the economy. Lets focus on one of her statements. America is directly funding the drug cartels. Our nation's obsession with obtaining illegal drugs is funding illegal terrorist action. Wow. Why are we just now discussing this? This issue should have been addressed long ago. What has our government's reaction been? Nothing up till now. Support of medical marijuana? Like she said: all or none. I am truly just amazed that illegal economic activity has erupted into something of this scale. America, Texas, I hope we our proud of ourselves...

I think it's awful that the attorney general uses the fact that because the murder rate is 10 per 100,000 people means the situation isn't that bad. Innocent people are dying, and for what? To provide addicts in the United States with drugs. This is despicable. The cartels that refuse to obey the government and begin to rule the people remind me of factions that we are currently fighting in the Middle East. We are sending thousands of troops overseas to fight a war on terror, but our neighbor is suffering and we are doing very little to help. I'm by no means suggesting to fight a full fledged war on the drug cartels, but the U.S. needs to devote more time to working with the Mexican government to reach a solution, and crack down on the amount of drugs that are imported into our country.
